Agüado Holds Spain to the Blade
MADRID, Spain - The first news has been able to be put on the air since the beginning of the fateful coup that has taken Spain by storm. We bring you the most intense moments of Spanish history since the failed coup, in 1981. The Spanish military, under the command of José Mena Agüado, has placed Las Cortes under arrest and has proclaimed the 'era of Socialism' over, and the new age of Fascism anewed. Other government officials have panicked after news of the fall of Valencia arrived at Madrid. Other cities have mobilized their own reserves and it seems as if Spain, for the second time in her history, is being split down the middle. El Tercio successfully took Ceuta and Melilla for the Nationalist front, but cities such as Barcelona, Sevilla and Bilbao have successfully avoided the coup, albeit temporary. In his only words to the public Agüado announced the execution of President Rodriguez Zapatero, and has said that if King Juan Carlos II refuses to surrender to the will of the generals, the rest of the court will meet the same fate.
King Juan Carlos II and Principe Felipe have fled from Madrid to Sevilla where they are reportedly working to gain control of the bases. The King, before leaving, gave a televized speech to the people of Spain. "Cuidadanos de España, your cause is not lost. I will never allow this country to be ruled by another tyrant. I only ask for your loyalty."
Unfortunately, the people in central Spain have shown tendencies towards the generals, while those in Cataluña and El País Vasco have promised their unilateral support towards the reinstitution of the parliament. Regardless, the situation is dire. Other than that, the information on the coup is rather limited. We do understand that there are tanks moving towards Barcelona, from Valencia, and that sporadic fighting has broken out in Madrid. Other than that, the country silently awaits the outcome.
