You'll understand if you're Canadian, and if you're not you will after this:
Ok, a little background. Basically, we have 4 'dominant' parties in Canada: the Liberals (more or less a centrist/moderate party), the Conservatives(speaks for itself), the New Democratic Party (Democratic Socialists) and the Bloc Québecois (interested in Quebec soverignty, nothing else). However, like the US, it seems that we really only have two parties: the Liberals and Conservatives. The Liberals have been in office for the past 12 years, and have been brought to election over the 'Sponsorship Scandal', which was money given to ad agencies in Quebec to promote Canadian unity. However, alot of the some $100 million returned to the Liberal Party. Right now it seems the Conservatives will win the January 23rd election.
Go here and watch a couple of the first 11 ads that come up. After you're done there, go here and watch a couple of the first six ads.
Notice something? It seems the Liberals and Conservatives are more interested in telling us, the people, what the other will: do, fail to do, or do at the expense of the populace. Their campaigns are centered around the other party, and I guarantee you if you watched a particular party's ads you would not find out what they would do if elected. It's absolutely god d**n ridiculous. Same thing with the debate featuring the four leaders on Tuesday night.
So, I'd like to issue a challenge to Stephen Harper and Paul Martin: how about you tell us what you plan to do, instead of what the other plans/will fail to do. I visit your websites, read your brochures, etc. to discover what you will do. Please tell me, guys, because I still don't have a clue.
Sorry to rant, but I had to get that out. It just really makes me mad: all this garbage.
